KEN GAINES Houston Singer/Songwriter

Texas Music Awards "2005 Singer Songwriter of the Year"

Some sell themselves for money
Some sell themselves for love
Some give their lives to pleasure
or some power from above.
If my grandchildren wonder
what I did with my life
Say I sold it for a song.

— Ken Gaines from "For a Song"

Ken will be opening the
2009 Kerrville Folk Festival
Main Stage 7 PM on May 21!!

Hi Folks,

Welcome to my world. As a traveling singer/songwriter my goal is to become locally know....everywhere. I hope you'll peruse these pages and consider having me come sing my songs for you. I've come to the realization that I have nothing better to do with the rest of my life. It's probably all I'm good for anyway so I've just let go the tiller, spread my sails, and go where the music blows me. I'm available for festivals, concert series, clubs, or in your home for a house concert. Have a look at the YouTube selections on this page or head on back to the music page for a more in depth listen including live pod casts, more YouTubes, and a range of recorded selections.

There's so much going on lately it's hard for me to keep up with me. With my last two CD's in second printing I'm gearing up to make a live CD which I hope to have out by the end of '09. If you're a fan of the Kerrville Festival you'll understand how excited I am to be opening the festival on Thursday, May 21 at 7 PM. I'm in the middle of my 11th year of producing & hosting the Thursday night Songwriters' Series at Houston's legendary Anderson Fair. Once again, I'm this year's MC for the Texas Music Awards, a role I've enjoyed for 4 of the past 5 years. To top it off recent touring has taken me to OK, KS, MO, IL, AR, LA, GA, FL, MS, CO, and NE as well as all over my home state.

In the past I've been selected twice for official showcases at the North American Folk Alliance Conference as well as the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance Conference. I'm a regular participant in these conferences as a performer and showcase room host. In 2005 I was selected Singer/Songwriter of the Year at the TMA's. I perform as a single act, an experienced "in the round" host, or regularly with partners, Wayne Wilkerson, Karen Mal, Butch Morgan, Bill Ward and quite few others.

Enjoy yourself in these pages and please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to send you whatever you need to come to the conclusion that It's high time your audience heard me.

Hope to hear from you soon,
